If you’re not currently taking these steps to protect yourself from hacking or fraud, you may be in potential danger or at risk. Take these steps to ensure that your identity and money stays safe:
Shred important documents and credit cards- If you receive a credit card advertisement in the mail, or if you receive important documents in the mail, make sure to discard them by shredding. This makes it harder for scammers or thieves to steal information such as bank account numbers, social security numbers, or other financial information.
Check your bank account on a daily basis- In case of fraud or theft, you should be checking your bank account to make sure that everything is where it should be and that there has been no unusual activity. This way you will be able to report strange activity to your bank so that they can catch it before more damage is done.
Be cautious when buying online- Before purchasing online, make sure that the website you are shopping on is safe. Also, make sure to use a credit card for all online purchases. Buying something from an untrustworthy company or site is basically giving your personal information away to anyone.
Don’t use easy to guess passwords or the same password for every account- Change up your password and store your password in a safe place. Don’t email your password to your self. There are apps that you can utilize that store and save your password. Also, don’t use the same password for all of your accounts. This makes it easier for someone to hack into more of your personal information.
